Drug Counselor Arrested in Crack Cocaine Trafficking Bust in Dutchess County NY

Alvin Lewis Jr., a 54-year-old resident of Wappingers Falls, has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and is being held without bail at the Dutchess County Transition and Justice Center. According to the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, additional charges are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.

Shockingly, Lewis was employed at an in-patient drug rehabilitation center in Carmel, a role typically dedicated to supporting individuals battling substance abuse. Authorities allege he not only sold crack cocaine but was involved in distributing other narcotics, undermining the trust placed in him as a counselor.

The arrest followed an intensive investigation culminating in the execution of a search warrant at Lewis's residence on Tuesday. During the search, law enforcement discovered quantities of crack cocaine that were reportedly packaged and ready for sale, further solidifying the case against him.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly among those connected to the rehabilitation center where Lewis worked. Officials have not disclosed how long he had been under investigation or whether any clients from the rehab center were involved in his alleged activities.

The case highlights the ongoing challenges authorities face in combating the illegal drug trade and ensuring that those in positions of trust, particularly in addiction recovery settings, are held accountable for their actions. The investigation remains active, and additional updates are expected as the legal process continues.
