Man Charged with Assaulting Police Officer

On Wednesday, December 6th, 2023 at approximately 5:00 pm New Hartford Police responded to a reported Larceny at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Seneca Turnpike. It was reported that the suspect stole nearly $3000 worth of clothing from Dick's. The New Hartford Police Officer who arrived was able to quickly locate the suspect on foot in the area running from the store still carrying a large amount of stolen clothing.

The suspect refused commands to stop and The Officer began to pursue the suspect on foot. While the suspect was fleeing the officer, the officer was able to grasp the suspect and begin to handcuff him when the suspect turned and bit the officer's shoulder causing an injury to the officer’s shoulder. The suspect broke free and the foot pursuit briefly continued. The Officer apprehended the suspect deploying a taser in the process as the suspect continued to resist arrest.

Once in custody, the suspect was identified as 28-year-old Tryze Q. Miller of Albany, NY. Miller was transported to The New Hartford Police Department and charged with the following;

-Grand Larceny in The Fourth Degree, a Class E Felony

-Two Counts of Assault in The Second Degree, a Class D Felony

-Resisting Arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor


Miller was also charged with a Parole Violation in connection with this incident as Police determined that he is currently under parole supervision. Miller was transported to The Oneida County Jail and held on these charges as well as a warrant issued from The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision for the parole violation. Miller will appear in court at a later date. The officer involved was treated at The Wynn Hospital for a shoulder injury and then released.
