Mohawk Man Arrested After Violent Domestic Incident Involving Arson, Assault, and Vehicle Damage

WARREN, NY – On February 13, 2025, Christian M. Callen, a 49-year-old man from Mohawk, was arrested by New York State Police after a violent domestic dispute at a residence on Hicks Road in the Town of Warren. He faces a range of serious charges, including:

  • Arson in the 2nd Degree (Class B Felony)

  • Assault in the 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)

  • Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)

  • Strangulation in the 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)

  • Assault in the 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)

  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor)

Disturbing Details of the Incident

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Herkimer County 911 received a call about a domestic dispute at the Hicks Road residence. According to initial reports, Callen allegedly set fire to a section of the home’s bedroom floor before using his vehicle to ram multiple cars parked in the driveway.

Upon arrival, State Police took Callen into custody after interviewing witnesses. A preliminary investigation revealed that Callen had physically assaulted a female victim and strangled her during an altercation. An elderly witness who tried to intervene also sustained physical injuries.

Arson and Destruction

During the altercation, Callen allegedly ignited a part of the house, but fortunately, residents inside were able to extinguish the flames before authorities arrived. Afterward, Callen went outside and used his truck to ram two vehicles, causing substantial damage.

Medical Evaluation and Legal Proceedings

Callen was transported to Wynn Hospital for a medical evaluation before being brought to the State Police barracks in Herkimer for processing.

He was arraigned in the Town of German Flatts Court and remanded to Herkimer County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in Town of Warren Court.
