On Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, the Syracuse Police Department's ATV Enforcement Detail continued their work, cracking down on illegal ATV activity operations across the City of Syracuse. The officers confiscated a total of six ATVs as a result of the detail. The six ATVs included one four-wheeler that was previously reported as stolen and two other ATVs that were discovered to have VIN numbers that had been filed off.
The Syracuse Police Department is taking a ZERO TOLERANCE stance when it comes to ATVs being illegally operated in City parks and on City streets. As a reminder, operators of these illegally operated off-road vehicles will arrested and charged with a local law violation which carries a $500 fine for first-time offenses. The violators are also subject to traffic citations, tow and impound fees, as well as significant redemption fees.
The detail will continue to run as the summer winds down.
The Syracuse Police Department would like to thank the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office for their continued partnership and the use of Air One.
We would like to remind citizens to report illegal ATV and dirt bike activity to the Syracuse Police Department by emailing atvtips@syracusepolice.org. Please report locations and addresses where the activity is occurring and where the ATVs are being stored.
