UPDATE: State Police are investigating a double fatal motor vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway

Update - Victims Identified

The driver of the Infiniti Q50 has been identified as Jevon Lyken, age 19, of South Richmond Hill, NY and the passenger has been identified as Debarpita Dey, age 18, of Corona, NY.

This crash is under investigation and the State Police is asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to call (631) 756-3300.

On Sunday, January 28th, 2024, at around 5:40 a.m., the State Police responded to a two-car motor vehicle crash on the westbound Southern State Parkway in the area of exit 35, in the town of Babylon, Suffolk County. Investigation revealed a 2015 Infiniti Q50 was traveling in the center lane of the parkway while approaching exit 35 when it struck a 2015 Jeep Compass in the rear. The impact caused the Infiniti to exit the roadway onto the right shoulder where it struck a tree, killing the driver and sole passenger inside. The impact also caused the Jeep to spin and strike the center concrete barrier, subsequently coming to rest in the left lane. The driver of the Jeep was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to investigate.

The identity of the victims involved in this crash is being withheld at this time pending notification to their families.
