Police Warn Public Of A New Property Scam

sophisticated scam and want to warn the public about it. An unidentified individual stole the identity of a property owner in Otsego County and then proceeded to forge a New Jersey Driver’s License. The individual then tried to sell the property through a local realtor.

Fortunately, the scam was thwarted when the deed showed additional owners, causing suspicion and halting the sale. The realtor, sensing something was amiss, investigated and discovered that the actual owner was unaware of the attempted sale. Thanks to the realtor's diligence, no money was lost, and the sale did not go through.
