Shocking Traffic Stop in Sylvan Beach NY, Leads to Drug Bust and Warrant Arrest

On June 11, 2025, at 11:14 p.m., New York State Police conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in the village of Sylvan Beach on a vehicle with an expired inspection. Â
Troopers interviewed the driver, identified as Thomas J. Spear, age 58, from Blossvale, NY, who provided inconsistent answers to questions and refused to make eye contact with Troopers. Â Troopers also attempted to interview a passenger, later identified as Brian A. Blowers, age 50, from Taberg, NY, however Blowers refused to answer questions or cooperate.
Through investigation, the identity of the passenger was learned and found that he had an active warrant out of the city of Oneida. Â Blowers was placed under arrest for the warrant and during a search, a clear plastic container containing Methamphetamine was found in his pocket.
A search of the vehicle was then conducted and Troopers located a clear plastic bag containing Methamphetamine in between the drivers seat and the center console, as well as a clear plastic bag containing Methamphetamine in a storage area above the visors. Â
Spear was also placed under arrest. Â
Spear and Blowers were transported to SP Sylvan Beach. Â
Spear was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) and operating a vehicle without an inspection. Â Spear was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the village of Sylvan Beach Court at a later date.Â
Blowers was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) and released with an appearance ticket to the village of Sylvan Beach Court at a later date. Â Blowers was then turned over to the Oneida City Police Department for an active warrant.
