Juveniles Injured in UTV vs SUV Crash on Route 5 in Vernon, NY

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on July 5th, 2025 at around 10pm, Deputies responded to State Route 5 in the Town of Vernon for a personal injury motor vehicle accident involving a UTV and an SUV.
Deputies determined that a juvenile female, who will not be named due to her age, was operating a black UTV attempting to cross State Route 5 in a southerly direction, when due to driver inexperience, and failure to yield the right of way, the juvenile entered the roadway causing a White Acura traveling westbound on State Route 5, operated by Hironmia Burnett (50) of Clinton, to strike the driver side of the UTV.
Both the juvenile operator and juvenile passenger of the UTV were transported to Wynn Hospital for non life threatening injuries.
Burnett was transported to Rome Health with non life threatening injuries.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Vernon Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance, Edward’s Ambulance, and Merrill’s Towing.
